Stainless Steel High-Top Conference Table for Donovan Hatem, LLC

We were approached by the facility manager to construct a stainless steel table for the lunch room at their office. They had some preliminary sketches we went over in a conference call to decide on exact dimensions, and materials. Our suggestion, as they were interested in an easy-to-clean, solution, was to use 304 grade stainless steel as the framework, and apply a brushed finish to it.

They wanted to put a granite top on the table, so we needed to ensure the weight would be supported over what would ultimately become a table spanning nine feet in length, and standing forty inches off the ground.

We used a combination of 1/8" thick stainless steel for the table. The supporting legs measured 3" x 3" and the frame for the tabletop measured 3" x 2". This stock was delivered in lengths of 20 feet to our shop in Revere, to be cut to size, and fabricated.

Bronze Plated Statues at The Revere Hotel

Mike's Welding Co., was contacted by NOVO Arts in New York to implement a series of large scale, abstract statues for The Revere Hotel on Stuart St. in Boston, MA. We were sent a series of drawings depicting the overall dimensions and some small form wooden statuettes to use as inspiration.

We traced the full scale designs and converted them into .DXF files to use in our CNC plasma cutting machine. The 16 gauge steel sheets were laid out and plasma cut before the edges were ground smooth of slag.

Each statue had to be built individually, as none of the pieces were similar. The largest statue needed to be made in two separate pieces, with the body and head being separate shells which were put together after finishing.

Custom Benches for "Lunch Atop a Skyscraper" Recreation

          Mike's Welding was commissioned by world-renowned artist, Sergio Furnari to re-create the iconic image "Lunch Atop a Skyscraper" He arrived at our Revere location with a vision of placing eleven full size statues atop benches fabricated to look like the steel I-beam, the workers in the photo are sitting on.

We went through several possible design concepts before deciding on fabricating the open-faced steel benches. Each piece was cut to size and ground smooth to ensure no sharp edges. The frames were constructed from 2; steel tubing, and the base and bench top were sheared from 3/16" steel plate. The frames were MIG welded together, before setting the base and bench top, which were stitch welded in place. Feet for the bench were then fabricated and welded to the benches to get the appropriate height.

Revere Town Hall Railings

The City of Revere contacted Mike's Welding Co., in October to discuss putting in a separating handrail on the main stairways in Revere City Hall. The preexisting railings were made decades ago with intricate scroll work and a custom designed wooden handrail. The City Officials wanted to recreate that old styling with the new dividing railing.

Mike's Welding Co., took detailed measurements, going as far as to physically trace and measure the preexisting wooden handrail in order to fabricate a matching top rail. After detailed drawings of the railing were drawn up, the stock was cut and laid across two tables, as each section was over twenty feet long. Once the framework was established, the scrolls were cut and hand rolled, before being welded onto the handrail and posts.

Custom Free Standing Gates

Mike's Welding Co., was commissioned to fabricate two ornate, free standing, steel gates to prevent cats from clawing at a well decorated Christmas Tree. The client was looking for a free-flowing scroll design for the face of the gates.

We began creating some custom designs in our Torchmate 3, CNC Plasma cutting CAD software and went over these different designs with the client. Each scroll was drawn, cut, enlarged, rotated, and redesigned multiple times before reaching the final design

Once the scroll pattern was finalized, the CAD file was converted into a .dxf to be read in our CNC plasma cutter. 16 gauge sheets were laid on the water-filled cutting surface and the program began cutting out the scrolls.
